1 kg Mixed Sherds Roman or Prehistoric
Prehistoric or Roman Ceramic Fragments for Study, Handling and Display
Details
For many years we have been asked the same wonderfully practical question, do you sell your broken pots?
The answer is now yes.
These 1kg sherd bundles offer a carefully gathered selection of fragments from our workshop, each one a small echo of the past. Rather than being discarded, these pieces take on a new role as tools for learning, teaching and hands-on exploration.
Each bundle allows you to engage with the physical reality of archaeological material. Weight, thickness, curvature, surface finish and decoration all become immediately apparent in a way that no photograph or textbook can quite capture.
Two bundle types are available, allowing you to focus on a specific period of interest.
Prehistoric Bundle
This bundle draws together sherds inspired by a wide sweep of prehistoric Britain, including Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age traditions.
You may encounter fragments from a variety of vessel types, along with occasional figure sherds. Surfaces may include cord impressions, burnishing and hand-built forms, reflecting the diversity of prehistoric ceramic traditions.
Roman Bundle
This bundle reflects the extraordinary diversity of Roman material culture.
Sherds may derive from a range of ceramic objects used across the Roman world, including vessels, oil lamps, figurines and roof tiles. These pieces offer insight into both everyday life and the broader industrial scale of Roman production.
No two bundles are ever quite the same. The number and size of sherds will vary, but each selection is assembled to provide a balanced and representative mix of forms, fabrics and finishes from your chosen period.
You may occasionally receive more than one fragment from the same vessel, offering a rare opportunity to study joins and curvature.
These bundles are particularly well suited to handling collections, archaeological illustration practice, mock excavation exercises and display work. They bring a tactile dimension to learning that is both immediate and deeply engaging.
Materials
Fired clay ceramics
Dimensions
Each bundle weighs approximately 1kg
Individual sherd sizes will vary, but all are small enough to be comfortably handled

Production
All sherds originate from our handcrafted museum quality replicas, made using traditional techniques inspired by archaeological originals.
Made entirely by hand from natural clay
Surface treatments reflect historically accurate methods including burnishing, slipping and impressed decoration
Each fragment retains the character of the original making process
Firing Process
These ceramics have been fired using techniques designed to echo ancient practices, including open firing and kiln firing where appropriate to the period being represented.
This results in natural variation in colour, texture and finish across the sherds
