Iron Age Pedestal Urn - Incised Decoration A1
Handcrafted Iron Age Burnished Pot – Finely Engraved Decoration
Details
This elegant, wheel-thrown vessel is inspired by an original artefact produced in Iron Age Gaul (modern-day France) around 400 BC. It is a high-status, finely crafted object, once available only to those Iron Age patrons wealthy enough to afford such opulence.
The form is distinctive for its high burnished shine, achieved by painstakingly rubbing the surface with a smooth pebble or tool until a lustrous finish is produced. Once the surface gleams, finely engraved decoration is carefully applied using a carving tool and a steady hand.
The result is an exquisitely elegant piece, timeless in its form and almost modern in its aesthetic.
Materials
Earthenware, terracotta with reduction-fired burnished finish
Dimensions
Height: Approx. 175 mm
Diameter: Approx. 195 mm
Production
Each piece is handcrafted in Northumberland by Potted History, based on Iron Age artefacts. It has been wood-fired using methods to accurately replicate the conditions of the original Iron Age firing, creating an authentic look and feel. This process results in natural variations in surface colour and texture, giving every piece its own unique character.
Please note: Each pot is one of a kind. You may not receive the exact piece shown in the photos, and colouration may vary.
