Anglo-Saxon Bowl, Little Wilbraham
Handcrafted Replica Little Wilbraham Bowl – Inspired by an Anglo-Saxon Find
Details
This delightful little vessel is based on an Anglo-Saxon bowl discovered near the picturesque village of Little Wilbraham, approximately six miles east of Cambridge, along the banks of the Little Wilbraham River.
The original was one of many fascinating archaeological finds unearthed during the excavation of an Anglo-Saxon cemetery in 1851 and later in 1926. Researchers discovered around 300 burials, divided between cremations and inhumations, providing insight into early medieval funerary practices.
This burial ground was likely used by a farming and agricultural community, who worked the fertile lands surrounding the village, leaving behind not only their loved ones but also beautifully crafted ceramic vessels, such as this bowl.
