Egyptian Ushabti Figure - Small
Handcrafted Replica Egyptian Ushabti – Servant of the Afterlife
Details
Ushabti figures, also known as Shabti or Shawabti (with various spelling variations), were an essential part of Ancient Egyptian funerary practices.
The use of Ushabti figures began in the Old Kingdom of Egypt (c. 2600-2100 BCE) and continued throughout Egyptian history. These figures are among the most frequently found artefacts from this period and are featured in most Egyptian exhibitions and museum displays.
Made in various materials and sizes—some even life-sized—Ushabti were placed in tombs in large numbers to serve as workers or servants for the deceased in the afterlife.
Many Ushabti figures were inscribed with hieroglyphic texts, often containing short spells from the Book of the Dead—the sacred funerary text written to guide the deceased on their journey into the afterlife. However, many examples today appear without inscriptions, as the writing has often not withstood the test of time.
