Greek Kore Statue / Persephone / Proserpina.

Greek Kore Statue / Persephone / Proserpina.

Handcrafted Replica Kore (Proserpina) Figurine – Inspired by Greek & Roman Mythology

Details

Kore, also known as Proserpina in Roman mythology, was the daughter of Demeter and Zeus and was revered as the goddess of fertility and death.

According to legend, while picking flowers in a meadow, Kore was abducted by Hades, the god of the underworld, and forced to become his wife, making her Queen of the Underworld. Her grief-stricken mother, Demeter, searched the earth for her, only to learn of her fate from Helios (or Hermes).

To pressure Zeus into demanding Kore’s return, Demeter caused a great drought, leading to famine. Unable to ignore the devastation, Zeus sent Helios to negotiate with Hades. However, Hades tricked Kore into eating a pomegranate seed, an enchanted fruit that bound her to the underworld.

A compromise was reached: Kore would spend one-third of the year with Hades and two-thirds with Demeter. This cyclical journey between the underworld and earth symbolises the changing seasons—her presence in the underworld brings winter, while her return to Demeter marks the bloom of spring, solidifying her role as a fertility goddess.

This faithful replica figurine celebrates her duality as a goddess of both life and death.
