Medieval Cooking Pot

Medieval Cooking Pot

Handcrafted Medieval Cooking Pot – Devon Style

Details

This utilitarian medieval cooking pot is based on a find from Devon and represents the kind of functional, dependable pottery that would have been a staple in any medieval kitchen. Used to prepare hearty meals for family gatherings or great feasts, pots like this were at the heart of daily life in the medieval world.

Materials
Earthenware

Dimensions
Height: Approx. 175 mm
Diameter: Approx. 200 mm

Production

This replica has been handmade in our Northumberland studio, taking inspiration from an original artefact. It has been fired to between 800°C and 1000°C, using the same techniques employed by medieval potters. This traditional method often creates variations in surface colour and texture, reflecting the authentic character of ancient pottery and giving each piece its own unique identity.

Health & Safety
Museum-Quality Replica: Made using authentic historical tools and techniques.
Unglazed and porous: This vessel will absorb the flavours of the food it holds, contributing to the taste of future dishes. However, because of this porosity, it does not meet modern food safety standards.
For display or experimental use only: While some people use such replicas for experimental archaeology, this is at your own risk.
Historically, cooking pots were heated to over 70°C for at least 10 minutes to kill most bacteria. Temperatures of 100°C or more would provide even greater safety.

Ordering Information
'Add to Basket' Items: Ready to ship immediately.
'Pre-order' Items: Handmade to order within 90 days (longer for international orders). If your order includes both 'Add to Basket' and 'Pre-order' items, they will be shipped together once all items are ready.
