Tudor Marchpane Stamper
Details
Marchpane was a must-have at any Tudor banquet. From simple wafers stamped with intricate designs to elaborate sugar sculptures, marchpane was an essential feature of courtly feasts and celebrations.
During the Tudor period (1485–1603), the craft of marchpane decoration became a highly skilled art form. Influential patrons commissioned ever more elaborate designs, impressing guests with delicately moulded confections.
In 1615, poet and author Gervase Markham described marchpane’s importance in his book The English Huswife, stating that it should hold "the first place, the middle place, and the last place" in a banquet.
To help you bring this fashionable Tudor delicacy to your own table, we have created a range of functional marchpane stampers, perfect for use with marzipan, firm shortbread, and sugar paste.
For more information on how to use your marchpane stamper, watch our instructional video, which also includes a traditional marzipan and marchpane recipe.
